Grooming Salon Supervisor

The GSS is responsible for the cost-conscious grooming and animal care management practices of The Barkley’s grooming salon and spa department. The GSS is accountable for the quality treatment and production of all pet guests in the department, including but not limited to, shampooing, bathing, rinsing, drying, brushing, styling, shaving, de-matting, etc. In addition, the GSS is responsible for managing a well-run, well-staffed, well-organized and efficient department. The GSS works in conjunction with other departmental managers, but directly under the supervision of the Animal Care Manager. He/she must be responsible, business-like, and have an uninhibited initiative/ability to follow through on commitments. He/she must be able to supervise and manage other employees according to The Barkley’s system and through acceptable teaching and communication methods. The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, a demonstrated computer experience and basic math competency is also essential to manage the department from a financial basis. The GSS also originates and leads human resources practices and objectives that will provide his/her department with employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. The GSS leads by example as the head groomer. He/she must be alert and aware of the general safety of employees, clients and pet guests at all times. This position requires is at least 40 hours per week and requires availability for duty 7 days per week - during and after business hours and on weekends and holidays.

The ideal GSS has at least five years experience in a grooming environment with an extensive knowledge of breed-specific styles, issues and concerns.  The ability to groom cats, birds, exotics, etc. is a plus. Physical requirements in the workplace environment include: clear speech, lifting up to 60 pounds unassisted, bending and stooping, extensive mobility, the ability to move quickly (especially in an emergency), working at elevations, an accurate sense of vision and smell, ability to read instructions and differentiate colors. Reasonable accommodations may be made to accommodate a handicap.
